About Spire Cycles
With 26 years in the cycle trade, you could say I have nearly seen and done it all.
It all started when I was 14 when I built my first wheel. From there an apprenticeship with a good few years at premier cycle shops in Dorset. During this time I spent 3 years as a professional race mechanic for the Orange Animal downhill mountain bike team, travelling the UK and Europe, working the National points series and World Cup meetings in the late 90’s.
Since then I have been involved in my own businesses where I have been able to learn much more than what you would typically learn in a shop. I have been active in frame manufacturing, learning and understanding the intimate details and construction methods of the various materials including the very difficult use of carbon and titanium as well as alloy’s and steel.
I now spend my days dedicating myself to keeping my customer’s bikes on the road where they should be, servicing, building custom wheels and even coffee tables from used rims and wheel parts.
Some refer to me as the bicycle engineer as I am able to repair the things others cannot do. From dealing with persistent creaks or gear issues to repairing damaged composite frames to re-engineering worn suspension pivots on full suspension frames.
